Dear Community Member,
My name is Linda Pearl Fils-Aime, and my roots run deep in South Florida. Born and raised in Opa-Locka, I've recently returned home after 20 years, eager to reconnect with the vibrant Black community that shaped who I am today.
As a former Ebony Fashion Fair model and adjunct professor at Clark Atlanta University's Business School, I've had the privilege of pursuing my passions across the country. Through my non-profit, A Lady Named Pearl Foundation Inc., I work to empower girls and women to become future leaders—work that has been recognized through my selection as a TEDx speaker.
Since returning to Miami, I've engaged in countless conversations with community members who have shared their concerns about limited economic opportunities, inadequate representation, and the persistent challenge of feeling voiceless in our city. These conversations have inspired me to conduct this survey as part of my research for my forthcoming book, The Black Experience in Miami. This project aims to document and analyze the contemporary realities, challenges, and triumphs of Miami's Black community.
Your voice matters deeply in this work. Your responses will help paint a comprehensive picture of our community's experiences and needs. By completing this survey, you grant permission for your responses to be included in the book. Please note that all responses will remain anonymous unless you specifically indicate otherwise.
To further this dialogue, we will be hosting a special Black History Month event on Saturday, February 22nd, in Miami-Dade County. During this gathering, we'll discuss the survey findings and explore collaborative ways to strengthen our community.
Thank you for participating in this important project. Your insights will help create a more equitable and inclusive future for Miami's Black community.
With gratitude,
Linda Pearl Fils-Aime
