Entrepreneurship Highlight: Myriam Taylor of Muxima

We felt it important to add an entrepreneur highlight to the newsletter” to bring awareness to the numerous business owners that could positively influence our readers.
 
Myriam Taylor, of Portugal, is the daughter of Angolan war refugees who sought asylum in Europe. Taylor found it to hard to fit in Europe especially as a black child with textured hair. Only in recent years has it become trendy for women of color to wear their hair naturally. Taylor had a vision for women of color to wear their hair with confidence while embracing it and without compromising it.
 
When Taylor became pregnant, she decided to refrain from using chemicals in her hair.  She found it challenging to find good products for her hair type. In 2016, Taylor decided to create a luxury hair-care business, Muxima and a biotechnology company, Muxima Bio. Her product line includes caviar-based shampoos, conditioners, and oils made from bio ingredients to nourish the hair. Each product was made with love and from her heart; Muxima in the Angolian language of Kimbundu, means “heart”.
 
Her products have been featured in Essence and Forbes magazines. Myriam is not just an enterpriser,  she is an advocate for social humanitarian causes! She believes in being a voice for inequality especially for victims of domestic violence and war orphans in Angolia! She continues the fight for social justice by giving her time to these causes in various European cities.

Entrepreneurship Highlight: Beau Shell

One of our three pillars at Pearl School of Modeling is entrepreneurship. We challenge our Pearls to create a business plan, implement it, and begin their business in their semester. We felt it important to add an entrepreneur highlight to the newsletter” to bring awareness to the numerous business owners that could positively influence our readers.
 
Meet Victor “Beau” Shell; a 15 year-old entrepreneur who has been running his own business since the age of eight. At age eight, Beau received an ice cream cart for his birthday. Beau is the owner of Cool World Ice Cream Shop in Athens, Georgia. Beau, affectionately known as “Lil Ice Cream Dude” is more than just a business owner; he’s a fighter. Diagnosed with pneumonia and emphysema, Beau was confined to his home for weeks but was determined to make his ice cream business a success. Beau received his medical treatment at the Scottish Rite Hospital and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. There he was introduced to UGA Miracle and Dance Marathon which he now supports with some of his proceeds. He has sold his ice cream in more than 400 events and to more than 10,000 customers. Beau desires to inspire all.

DESIGNER HIGHLIGHT: KYEMAH MCENTYRE

Kyemah McEntyre is a young women who became widely known for her prom dress design that ” broke the internet”. The African print prom dress created a fashion moment. She said she initially wanted to wear her African inspired dress to the prom to send a message to other teens that it’s ok to be yourself and that natural beauty is to be loved and admired. That prom night, she got lots of attention and was crowned prom queen.

The East Orange, New Jersey native was in high school at the time! The following fall, she enrolled in the fashion school, Parsons School of Design. Shortly after, she caught the attention of actress/singer Naturi Naughton who called on Kyemah to design a dress for the 2015 BET Awards, where she wore the beautiful form fitting dress. She also designed a dress for the legendary model and TV host, Tyra Banks. Tyra wore the design on an episode of ABC’s FABlife.

The Mind of Kye brand is where art and fashion meet. Kyemah has a profound love for Black women, art, history and how the subjects interact with society. In a short time, Kyemah has proven to be one of the most innovative and talented artists and designers of the millennium.

ENTREPRENEURSHIP HIGHLIGHT: MOZIAH BRIDGES

One of our three pillars at Pearl School of Modeling is entrepreneurship. We challenge our Pearls to create a business plan, implement it, and begin their business in their semester. We felt it important to add an entrepreneur highlight to the newsletter” to bring awareness to the numerous business owners that could positively influence our readers.

Moziah Bridges always had a vision of looking his best. At the age of four he began to wear a suite whenever he could. He started his company at the age of nine. He couldn’t find an accessory to fit his personality or style so he created his own. He pitched his ideas to Shark Tank with the help of his mother Tramica. Although he did not end up with a deal from any of the Sharks, he ended up with the mentorship of Daymond John.  He landed on Time Magazine’s Most Influential Teen List in 2015 and was invited to the White House by former President Barack Obama. To date he has landed a partnership with the National Basketball Association (NBA), has an internationally recognized brand, and plans to study fashion and design in college.

Meet Ben Chestnut, co-founder and CEO of Mailchimp. Headquartered in Atlanta since 2001, Mailchimp has become a leading marketing platform for small business and nonprofit organizations. To date, the company has a over 1000 employees and millions of users worldwide. Chestnut is no stranger to entrepreneurship; his mom ran a hair salon from her family’s kitchen in Georgia. Ben pursued his education at Georgia Tech in industrial design and worked hard to help Mailchimp earn the title of one of the world’s most Innovative Companies by Fast Company. He personally earned the distinct honor of being named Ernst & Young’s Entrepreneur of the Year in 2016.
